The more developers work on an app, the more complicated the deployment becomes. While the integrated tools of Apple’s development environment Xcode are usually sufficient for individual developers, tools such as Fastlane or Xcode Cloud are used in larger development teams. These take over routines that otherwise have to be carried out by hand and cost so much working time.
On-Premise oder Cloud?
The new Mac & i webinar Automated Deployment and Release Management provides insight into two different approaches of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). On the one hand, we use Fastlane and GitLab to explore the on-premise approach, in which all processes remain in the company. This is interesting, for example, if the source code is not allowed to leave the intranet. As an alternative, we look at Apple’s fledgling cloud service, Xcode Cloud.
The developer, specialist author and consultant Stefan Mayer-Popp explains the respective advantages and disadvantages of the two approaches, both from the perspective of the developer and from an entrepreneurial point of view. With the help of Fastlane and GitLab, an on-premise solution will be implemented during the webinar and then a solution will be developed with Xcode Cloud.
