FritzOS 7.50: Update available for glass fiber Fritz boxes

An update to FritzOS version 7.50 is available for the two Fritz boxes 5590 Fiber and 5530 Fiber. After the DSL and cable routers and several repeaters, the firmware is now also available for fiber optic users.

FritzOS 7.50 is an extensive update that brings both new functions and technical improvements under the hood. It is now available for the following AVM products:

  • Glass fibre: Fritzbox 5590 fibre, 5530 fibre
  • DSL: Fritzbox 7590 AX, 7590, 7583, 7583 VDSL, 7530, 7520, 7510
  • Kabel: Fritzbox 6690 Cable, 6591 Cable
  • Repeater: Fritz-Repeater 3000, 2400, 1200

The update to FritzOS version 7.50 can be initiated via the router’s web interface. All you have to do is call up “http://fritz.box/” or the router IP in your browser, log in and click on the version number in the top right-hand corner. Alternatively, AVM provides current images for the Fritzbox 5590 and Fritzbox 5530 on its download page.

The biggest innovation of FritzOS 7.50 is the integration of Wireguard VPN as a much faster alternative to IPsec. Users can use it to set up a VPN connection to the company network from their home office, for example. Even the non-finalized laboratory versions brought a significant speed boost.

When it comes to Smart Home, the Fritzboxes learn more management options, including new if/then rules along with templates, scenarios and routines for more flexible home automation.

Under the hood there are improvements such as the introduction of Zero Wait Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS), which is intended to ensure uninterrupted WLAN operation when interfering radar pulses are detected.

After the last wave of updates, the FritzOS 7.50 update is still missing from the DSL Fritzbox 7530 AX and all cellular and Ethernet routers (6890 LTE, 6850 5G, 6850 LTE, 6820 LTE, 4060, 4040).
