“The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum”, “Age Of Wonders 4”: New PC Games In May 2023

In May, players can look forward to highlights such as “Age of Wonders 4” and “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum”. In addition, “Darkest Dungeon II” leaves the Early Access phase and is now also available on Steam.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The action-adventure “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum” was developed by Daedalic Entertainment and will be released on May 25, 2023 for the PC and the major consoles. As the name suggests, the focus of the game is the story of the creature Gollum. “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum” lets players slip into the role of the famous character from JRR Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” saga and sends him on an adventurous journey through Middle-earth. Gollum is in a constant battle with his inner demons, trying to regain the one ring – his treasure. In his search for the object of desire, Gollum has to use his stealth talents above all, because sword and armor are not part of his equipment.

Stealth, agility and cunning in particular help to overcome opponents and obstacles in the game. If a direct confrontation is unavoidable, Gollum can also bring his enemies down with sneaky and backstabbing. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum offers a new and unique perspective on the events of The Lord of the Rings story, as the game is told from the point of view of a character who also liked to remain hidden in the films, and only in some key moments came to the fore. Whether Gollum or Sméagol can ultimately prevail is entirely up to the player.

Darkest Dungeon II

Darkest Dungeon II is a turn-based gothic role-playing game with roguelike elements and the sequel to the popular game Darkest Dungeon. On May 8th, 2023 “Darkest Dungeon II” will be released for the PC on Steam. The Early Access version of the game has been available for purchase for users of the Epic Games Store since October 2021. Like its predecessor, “Darkest Dungeon II” takes place in a gothic dark fantasy setting full of aggressive creatures and oppressive darkness. Players take control of a group of heroes who must fight their way through dark dungeons full of dangers. In addition to fighting monsters and other enemies, this also involves overcoming mental stress and managing resources such as food and equipment.

“Darkest Dungeon II” not only offers new heroes and dungeons, but also an improved combat system and more tactical options to eliminate opponents. Before each new run into the dark dungeons, players have the opportunity to customize their hero party and equipment. Putting together the group and their equipment affects the course of the game, as does making decisions between fights. Although a failed run ends with the death of the group, captured resources can be used to better prepare the heroes for future adventures.

Age Of Wonders 4

With “Age of Wonders 4” the long-awaited, latest part of the “Age of Wonders” game series will be launched on May 2nd, 2023. In terms of setting, “Age of Wonders 4” is supposed to continue where “Age of Wonders 3” left off in 2014, namely in a classic fantasy world. The last installment in the series was Age of Wonders: Planetfall, which was released in 2019 and took place in a sci-fi setting for the first time. In Age of Wonders 4, players take control of a leader and faction in a dynamic game world that changes as the empire expands. Combining elements of 4X strategy and turn-based tactical combat, the game offers high replay value thanks to a new system of randomly generated story events and highly customizable realms.

The player can create and customize their own ruler and empire by combining physical traits, social traits, and magical powers. The story revolves around powerful sorcerer-kings who want to return to the world and rule over mortals as gods. The player must acquire and master mysterious ancient books to evolve their people and prepare for epic battles. “Age of Wonders 4” offers tactical, turn-based battles and a new morale system as well as a new event system, which should give the stories a special depth and variety.
