With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, lots of memory and a 165-watt display, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is at the top of the smartphone league. However, the price remains slightly below the luxury class.
Motorola’s Edge 40 Pro is powered by the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm and has a correspondingly high level of power. 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of non-expandable memory are also on board. The smartphone packs its components into a slim glass case with a metal frame. The glass surfaces are slightly curved on all edges, the display stretches a little around the edge on the long sides.
The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is protected against the ingress of dust and water according to IP68. The manufacturer encourages using the smartphone as an underwater camera. The Knipse, which consists of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a double telephoto lens with 12 megapixels, is then no longer operated via the touchscreen, but with the help of the volume rocker, which becomes the shutter release. When dry, the Edge 40 Pro responds to well-known Motorola gestures, such as twisting the wrist to activate or switch the camera, and pecking in the air to turn on the flashlight.

The smartphone, weighing 199 grams, has a built-in battery with a capacity of 4600 mAh, and the matching power supply unit with a maximum charging capacity of 125 watts is included. The Edge 40 Pro accepts up to 15 watts of charging current wirelessly via Qi. The 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels achieves a refresh rate of up to 165 Hertz. The Edge 40 Pro can be connected to Windows PCs, Android tablets, televisions and monitors via the Ready-For app, either wired or wirelessly.
Price stays below the pain threshold
The Edge 40 Pro is not cheap, but with a price of 899 euros, mobile phone pioneer Motorola stays well below the pain threshold of a thousand euros, which many high-end smartphones now clearly break. Similar to the Edge 30 series, the Pro model will soon be accompanied by other model variants that are sorted further down in terms of price and equipment.
